David Shortell (Founder & Chairman)
I hold the
title of founder and current Chair of the Charity.
I am a
serving Police Constable with the West Mercia Constabulary, a job
which I have enjoyed doing for over 18 years now. Prior to this I served in
the Royal Navy for 6 years and had the chance to travel to many different
countries. As you can probably guess this makes me quiet old. Well I’ am 41
years old this year.
My
overwhelming interests are without any doubt, the providing of activities
for Children to take part in. I am a keen Kayaker, Cyclist and Power Kite
Flyer.
I am a qualified Kayak Coach and I have expertise in Off Road Driving with
over 400 hours in this field.
Andy Hunter
(Coaching Development Officer)
I am
currently working as a deputy manager for Aldi, though I have only been
working for the company since the beginning of this year. Many people will
know me as being a manager from McDonalds, which I did previously for 5
years
(too long).
I am a qualified kayak coach, and have been helping with the Charity since
its
creation many moons ago, with the pool sessions, extra activities and
various
summer schemes. In my spare time I am an indoor rock climber, motorcyclist,
musician and I enjoy socialising and have been known to consume the odd pint
or two.
Sophie Heeks
I
am 12 years old nearly 13. My Family has a house in Spain and we go there
most school holiday and sometimes out of school holidays. I go to Simon de
Montfort. I am in Year 8.
I
have been kayaking for about a year now and enjoy doing it. I found the
kayaking trust thought school in year 7 and I help the coaching team teach
children kayaking . And that's me.
Phil Dimond
Howdy, I am
16 years old and I work at the Applebarn restaurant as a restaurant
floor assistant.
I have been
helping Dave and the Charity since 2002 when I was one of the
children awarded a place in the first Tall Ships Project.
I assist on
the poolside in the Kayaking sessions and I am part of the Off Road
Support Team.
I also enjoy
power kiting, kayaking and various other hobbies. Along with
five of the other lads and ladies we enjoy spending time as a team on the
off road course camping and planning new routes for us to take.
I
very much appreciate the privilege of being a part of the Childrens Kayak
Charitable Trust, and doing anything to help and improve the Charity.
Allison Godfrey
I
am a full time housewife and mum to Joshua age 6 and Samuel age 1, a
very challenging and often rewarding role!
At
present I am a Parent Governor at a local primary school as well as being
current Secretary to the Charity and I have just finished a five year term
as
Treasurer to a local voluntary support group.
When I am not being a taxi driver for my sons' social activities, my
interests
include scrapbooking and making glass bead jewellery.
I
also like to lend a hand in the primary school reception class on a Friday
morning - I had forgotten that school could be so much fun when you are
only 5!
Unfortunately, I have yet to learn how to kayak, although I am assured that
even someone as old as me (38) could learn and I really will get around to
doing it one day. I have, however, enjoyed many sessions on the
4x4 course and am keen to continue with this"
Christopher Barnes (Treasurer)
Here’s a little bit about me, I have been born and brought up in Evesham,
after leaving Evesham High School I lived in Cardiff for 3 years completing
a degree in Forensic Science following that I joined the Health and Safety
Executive as an inspector of work place health and safety.
After finding this career not to my liking I joined the police serving in
the
Gloucestershire Constabulary, I work in the Tewkesbury and Winchcombe
area. I have held the title of treasurer, and have been involved with the
charity ever since its conception. For my part I enjoy helping with the
running of the charities.
Simon Godfrey
I
am married to Allison and have two sons Josh and Sam.
I have been a self employed plasterer for 14 months, prior to this I have
had a varied career path from an office to HGV driving and even into
printing for the largest private offset web printing company in the country.
I
have worked in Australia whilst on ' holiday' for 15 months which was a
great learning experience. I am older than our chairman David, so 41 isn’t
that old!
As well as
my main interests ( Josh and Sam), as well as being involved in
the Charity as Vice Chair ( means I only get half a seat!), I enjoy rugby
and
motorcycling both of which are now watched on the tv, although I have
done both in the past.
The off roading course that we have been developing up on Snowshill has
been of great interest and enjoyment and I look forward to being part of
it for a long time to come
