The Childrens Kayak Charitable Trust was the culmination
of a great deal of work from a
very simple idea back in 2001.When we looked at
the opportunities open to children of the Wychavon area it was clear
that the River Avon was not used to its full potential for water based
activities.
To aid safe access for children into this environment, we obtain the much
needed support
of the Wychavon Leisure Centre and having discussed the centre requirements
with the
core founder members, we set about raising the funding to buy a kayaking
fleet.
The initial 8 kayaks and all the safety equipment was
sourced courtesy of the assistance
of Awards for All, Sports-Match and the John Martins charity.
Since those very early days the charity expanded its
efforts exponentially to include
Summer Residential activity weeks, Scuba Diving, White Water Rafting,
Climbing and
we have given 13 children a Tall Ships Experience on a Baltic Trader.
As of 2007 the charity celebrated its 6th birthday and
to mark such a notable occasion
we were very proud to launch our Off Road Adventure Challenge.
This has seen the start of what we hope to be a very
long commitment to a hugely
exciting activity for children to take part in. It is based on the Cotswold
Way and
includes a
1 ½ mile
wooded section of acute terrain to traverse across.
